Thank you
On Newsletters and Postcards, Freedom is not free, Reading recommendation for better decisions and a Confession.
Thank you for being among the first to subscribe to The Reader’s Den newsletter.
I am thrilled with your response and grateful for your trust. If you want to know a bit more about me, please visit this link on my blog.
Newsletters and Postcards
This letter is a preview of things to come.
The newsletter will usually contain:
A thought or article from me.
A reading recommendation.
An interesting quote, insight, anecdote or just some thoughts on what I am currently reading (books, tweets, articles).
The Reader’s Den will evolve and, as I write this note, I anticipate it broadly having two parts:
The Reader’s Den newsletter every week. Similar to what you are reading now. Next edition will go out a week from now on 8/9 Aug 2020. Do expect the date and time to change slightly over the next few weeks as I find a sweet slot that works best for you and me.
An occasional The Reader’s Den postcard. A postcard will be a shorter version of this email with just the thought or article from me.
I am keen to hear from you so that we evolve the format and content together, and take this journey in a direction that adds value.

Please share your feedback by writing to newsletter@reading.guru. I will respond back as quickly as possible.

Freedom is Not Free
Freedom does not mean being free of all responsibilities.
Freedom means being free to choose your responsibility.
Freedom means being able to think for yourself.
Freedom requires taking responsibility for your free self.
You are not free if you rely on external authorities (religions, leaders, bosses, wise men and so on) to do the thinking for you in any aspect of life.
Matsuo Bashō's wise words should be heeded by those seeking freedom:
Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise.
Seek what they sought.
Reading Recommendation
The Art of the Good Life by Rolf Dobelli
A must read book that outlines fifty-plus heuristics or mental models that will help you think for yourself, make better decisions and increase the probability of leading a good life.
(Trivia: The author, Rolf Dobelli, is a co-founder of getAbstract that provides 10-minute summaries of non fiction books.)
You can read my review and summary of the book here. The book has a lot more examples that are not present in the summary.
Book Reviews and Summaries
I have 40+ book reviews and book summaries available to read on my blog Reading.Guru. Do check it out and see if you find anything interesting and useful.
I have a lot of book reviews and summaries to add while I catch up on the backlog of books read, but summaries not written.
I will include a brief update on new reviews and summaries added in the newsletter.
A Confession
I want to start this journey on a foundation of complete transparency. I would like to confess to my sin.
The Sin
The Guru part has been bugging me for a year since I registered the domain Reading.Guru for my blog.
Yesterday, my Twitter friend, @Route2FI, referred to me as a Guru and I had to confess.
The Confession
I don’t want you carrying unrealistic expectations about my alleged Guru-dom as we get on this journey together. Hope you can forgive me.
Follow me on Twitter
I am active on Twitter with a community of 1,725+ readers and rising.
Of all the social media platforms I enjoy Twitter the most. Twitter gives me an opportunity to learn from, bounce off ideas and interact with some of the best thinkers (who also happen to be avid readers!) on this planet.
A sample of what I posted earlier today.
Please take a moment to join the Reading.Guru community if you are already on Twitter.

Not on Twitter....
Hope you have alternative arrangements and I don't miss out on anything .
